Neoliberalism

“The creation of this neoliberal system has entailed much destruction, not only of prior institutional frameworks and powers (such as the supposed prior state sovereignty over political-economic affairs) but also of divisions of labor, social relations, welfare provisions....”

Neoliberalism is a tool that is used by the upper class to economically take advantage of the lower class. This system was established to maintain limitations to the powerless. Capitalism is a system in which the country’s trade is controlled by big corporations for profit. The United States thrives off of Capitalism and contributes to the inevitable demise of the poor. Capitalism was plumbing because of social democracy, therefore Neoliberalism was implemented to keep the economy from floundering and the wealthy from becoming poor. Neoliberalism emphasizes the desire for free-market capitalism; it is an instrument utilized by the upper class to nurture their interest. David Henry argues that Neoliberalism is naturalized by individual liberty and freedom which are the central values of civilization. These values become threatened if the government intervenes therefore, the economic power doesn’t exist in the government but the private businesses and the wealthy citizens that have the power to rule individuals based on their financial status.

I chose to talk about this quote because it is unfortunate that those who struggle financially do not have the same opportunities as those who prosper. Neoliberalism serves to reduce estate influence on the economy and have the private businesses take full control. In a society where people do not have access to healthcare or cannot afford healthcare have increasing needs but lower socioeconomic status. Of course the United States cannot be a communist country because it would leave the economy stagnant and although Capitalism is hurtful to the poor, it keeps the economy running and allows for the poor to get their way to the top.
